[In The Dunes #1] Almost Transparent Chrome

+++

Something not unlike a short, experimental collage film after late 80’s consumerist horror ‘Chopping Mall’ , A.K.A. ‘Killbots’ in the test screenings [where the film was 19 minutes longer].

This is the first video in a fledgling series I thought up about a week ago called ‘In The Dunes’, named after the Japanese film/novel ‘Woman In The Dunes’. It will basically be a load of short experimental collage like things focused on themes of isolation, solitude, re-territorialisation and subversion/inversion.

Initially, for this one, I was just gonna do a mesh of ‘Chopping Mall’ and ‘Metropolis’, but things whorled out of control and, before I knew it, the televangelist scene from ‘Nowhere’ was there on my screen at 2 in the morning and my video collage was at the 11 minute mark.

Tbh, I don’t think the robots in ‘Chopping Mall’ have enough static solo shots to make the vid work as a rigid bot-subjective existentialist piece, so I have no regrets about expanding scope and hopefully keeping the existential bit. Can just call it Id symbolism, I suppose, a dis-rendering of the robot’s psyche.

Films used: Chopping Mall, Metropolis, Freddy 2, Nowhere, Queen of Blood, The Doom Generation, Viy, Wise Blood, Night of the Comet, Weird Science.

For the music, I leaned on tracks from old SNES games ‘Earthbound’ and ‘Terranigma’ cos they both felt robot-ish.
