The day [and hour] has finally arrived, it’s launch time for giallo-autophagised mega project ‘All The Colour Of The Dark’.
I’ve written so much promo stuff for this over the last few months – at least 3 pieces – I’m no longer sure what to say or how much I’m repeating myself.
Basically, the genesis of this project: I wrote an original ekphratic story after 1972 giallo ‘All the Colours of the Dark’ [which I will also make available in PDF form as a comparison point to the finished mega-piece] and then thought, hmm, I wonder what Danika would do with this. And Gary. And Karina. And Ami. And Sara. And so on and so on. So, I recruited a final total of 12 other contributors and gave them the story in turn, on which they could write, scrawl, draw, dribble anything they so desired until, after about six months, the piece was 130 pages long and transcendental.
To be honest, while doing the final look through, there were a lot of moments where I couldn’t remember what was written by me and what wasn’t, especially in the first section. Just some lines I carried over from my de-con-struc of ‘Anti-Clock’ and that’s about it. Beyond the middle part, it kind of takes off into surrealistic, fantastical madness and never comes back, which is exactly as it should be.
Thanks to all contributors for leaping into this, you know who you are, and if you’ve forgotten, I’ll write all your names down here now, with links to your websites or work:
Ryan Raymond Buell – point + click Grand Deus narrator of ‘Exit Reality’, lover of Ed Furlong’s ‘Brainscan’, tried to interview me once
Karina Bush – Hyperreal shaman queen of ‘Fourth Industrial Revolution Slut’, a kind of video novella I may have raved about once or twice
Madelaine Culver – introduced me to Asemic scrawls with her ethereal ‘The Second Dream’, also an academic sage of female-directed horror
A.A. de Levine – writer of a great de-con-struc of ‘Asylum’ plus various short stories, must be headlocked into writing a novella at some point
Matthew Kinlin – mega giallo fan and writer of novels that may also have a bit of giallo about them.
Sara Matson – surrealizer [with a ‘z’] of ‘[women in STEM]’, poetess of shifting stanzas
Monique Quintana – discovered via fleeting magic realism in ‘The Zoo Cru & Other Assimilations’
Saint Nick – writer/artist from the house by the cemetery, lover of Fulci, hater of overdubbed child actors in Fulci films
Ami J. Sanghvi – creator of pataphysical madness, ‘x( )-id </3’, that hugged to death/re-life the black-ground I always use
Gary J. Shipley – occasional watcher of ‘Begotten’ + guide into [horror state of] multiple inversions of self that metastasized in ‘You With Your Memory Are Dead’.
Danika Stegeman – mod on the imaginary Psycho Holosuite boards, poetess behind ‘Pilot’ [about ‘Lost’ but not] and ‘Ablation’, who taught me everything I know about centos.
Andrew C. Wenaus – morse code revivalist who writes things that I know for 92% certain I’m misinterpreting e.g. ‘Ω – 1 CHRONOTOPOLOGIC WORKINGS’
I’m putting it up here as a free PDF and on my itch.io page, so anyone can read/download/review.
Yeah, please review if you have time, or do a de-con-struc, otherwise it’ll just drift off into the void of “too many” that is the lit sphere.
I think that’s everything.
Either click on the link below or the image at the top and you’ll be whisked straight to the free PDF.
